Musings on Round Two
The Kelowna Rockets are in town for tonight’s WHL Western Conference Playoffs round two opening game against the Portland Winterhawks. The two teams played four times during the regular season with Portland winning 3 of the 4 games. The lone loss came in Kelowna back in January. The Rockets have been a very strong team down the stretch and I believe they will be a bit more challenging than the...

Notes from Sec 114
The Winterhawks dominated play in both games over the weekend and walked away with a pretty easy 2-0 advantage over the Everett Silvertips in Round 1 of the 2011 WHL Western Conference Playoffs. My keys to victory were to score early and minimize cheap penalties. The Hawks must have been listening as they took an early lead both nights and never looked back. Also, PIM’s were very low and the...

Winterhawks notes
I wanted to share a few snippets we overheard Wednesday in the Rose Garden for a group of fans sitting right behind us. There was a family of four, Dad , Mom, and two teenaged boys. When the National Anthems were sung – There was quite a bit of laughter when O Canada was sung. Upon completion of both anthems Mom wondered aloud why they sung O Canada, asking “was that supposed to be some kind of...

Peninsulated Progress
Well we have hit mid-week of our March get-away. The week actually started last weekend with a trio of Winterhawk games played in three different cities, in two different countries, over three days. The boys went 2-1 over the weekend and still hold a one point advantage for top seed in the playoffs. With only 7 games left to play, it will be interesting. The next two games are against the Everett...

Things I've learned
I’m lazy. Or, more to the point, I want results. Now. No learning curves for me. At least no steep curves. I’ve bought into what I call the “Great American Concept” - The Path Of Least Resistance!!  Let me explain.  I like to write. I’m not the best writer but I do enjoy it when motivated to do so. I also like to take pictures. I’m no Ansel Adams but I do...

iPad: After One Week
I thought I’d throw out some random thoughts and opinions on the iPad after I’ve used it for one week. So, here goes. To quickly summarize, the iPad is just pure fun to use. Yes there are some quite frustrating limitations such as the lack of a web cam, no ability to save a photo from a web site, flash/wmv compatibilty, some apps are slightly buggy, no multi-tasking etc but it does do...

Netflix on the iPad
If the rumors turn out to be nothing more than an April Fool’s joke, BIG Kudo’s to the person who concieved it. It’s been picked up by all the major blog and news sources, even the Wall Street Journal is reporting it as fact. If it’s true, well then, I’ll be comfortably kicked back in my easy chair Saturday night watching movies on my iPad!!

What you should know about "reconciliation" →
OK so I was really confused about the difference between HR3590 and HR3200 and what reconciliation was. Were they trying to merge these two bills into one? And what role did HR4872 play? I began searching for answers and came across the attached document. It’s an eye opening read and worth the time to read it.

Airport wifi
It’s shameful that the Atlanta airport, which is a major hub, does not offer free wifi. They gouge you for $4.95 per hour or 7.95 per day. Wake up Atlanta officials, it’s a new century now.
